I try to understand why I respond in this way, so I consider my response a little longer. I finally conclude that I am taken by inspiration from the journey. To set out and do something requiring such endurance and commitment revitalizes my sense of American pride. A country founded by people brave and determined enough to pursue the unknown for a possibility of something far better, is truly a great one. However, we can't rely solely on the accomplishments of those who came before us. To see the American spirit continued in the "Mayors Across America" expedition serves as a reminder to me, to do my part, in making this country even better.
